What is an Exercise Physiologist?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-qualified allied health professional specialising in designing, delivering, and evaluating safe and effective exercise interventions. These interventions target individuals with acute, sub-acute, or chronic medical conditions, injuries, or disabilities. AEPs are trained to address a wide range of health issues, including cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory/pulmonary, mental health, and other conditions where exercise is proven to enhance clinical outcomes.

Our dedicated team of exercise physiologists is committed to improving your health and quality of life through tailored exercise programs designed to meet your specific needs. Whether you’re managing a chronic disease, recovering from an injury, or seeking to improve your overall well-being, we are here to support you every step of the way.

What is the Difference Between an Exercise Physiologist and a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists typically provide more hands-on treatments, making them suitable for the initial stages of your therapy. They focus on alleviating pain, improving mobility, and addressing acute issues.

Once your condition is stable, Exercise Physiologists step in to design exercise-based interventions that help you return to your daily activities and manage your condition over the long term.

While both professionals aim to enhance your physical health, their roles are complementary, with physiotherapists handling early-stage treatment and AEPs focusing on long-term rehabilitation and maintenance.

Who Should You See?

Early-Stage Treatment

Start with a Physiotherapist for hands-on treatment and initial rehabilitation.

Ongoing Rehabilitation and Long-Term Management

Transition to an Exercise Physiologist to continue your recovery, maintain your progress, and manage your condition effectively.

By combining the expertise of both physiotherapists and exercise physiologists, you can achieve comprehensive and continuous care tailored to your unique health needs.

Logan Physio has been great for me over the last 10 years, Justine and Sandy are very knowledgeable caring people who offer a great personalised service. I have attended their exercises classes for a long time which helped me with my ability to recover from a recent serious case of sepsis which resulted in me becoming a below knee amputee. Justine is now working with me to gain more strength as an amputee and is doing a great job. She is very caring and knowledgeable.
